The Sport Hero of the Month for December 2018 is .....

GRACE HEWITT

The first time I saw Grace compete was four years ago at the State Titles in Umina.

It was the final of the beach sprint where Grace won the gold!

The impression I got from that event was that we were going to see a lot more of this young athlete in the years to come and so far she has proven me right.

Time passed and the next time I came in contact with Grace was when I was the

Youth Coordinator.

We had a youth trip over to Fingal Island and she was one of the six young ladies that came along. This is where I found out that not only is she a good athlete she has a personality to match. She kept us entertained for hours by catching a gummy shark.

Some of the sporting achievements that Grace has had over the years are competing at five State Championships during her time at Nippers winning three gold medals and one silver medal, Hunter Branch Champion, Inter Branch Competitor, winning third place this year, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of Surf Life Saving. What an achievement!

Outside of her surf club sport, Grace has competed at State Level representing Combined Independent Schools for Athletics and also took up Rugby 7's where she was selected into the Hunter Wildfires Team for State Selection.

Grace has also gained her Bronze Medallion this year, well done!

What a remarkable young lady, so if you see her on the beach, say well done.

Grace, you are a true Hero!
